People Shots

Most of my shots are either of nature or people.  Here are a few examples of "grab" shots as well as some posed.  I suppose shots of performers is cheating a bit since someone else has done your lighting for you.

This first one is of Ron Hynes (singer/songwriter from Newfoundland) performing in Charlottetown, PE.

I'm not sure if this next one is a people shot or a nature shot. This was one of those spontaneous shots that just happen every now and then. My daughter was feeding her baby by the side of the river.   In fact, it was my wife's keen eye that saw it first.

Another performance shot.  This one is Ashley MacIsaac, Stuart Cameron, J.P. Cormier, and Gordie Sampson performing at the ECMAs in February, 2007.

Another example of not being sure what the main topic is.
This is our Springer Spaniel getting a treat on a fall outing.

This is a shot of Quinne reaching for some more chestnut leaves.
She had just turned two years.

Here are a couple of posed shots that I prefer in black and white.

And I will close with a shot of a fifer at Fortress Louisbourg, NS.

A Few Wedding Shots

I've done a few weddings in the past few years, mostly at the request of friends of the family.  Here are a few of the more traditional wedding shots I've taken.

For the most part, I like to keep the background simple so it doesn't detract from the bride and groom.
In some cases I have included more background when I feel it adds to the moment:

Mostly I try to just add enough background  to identify the season

And then some shots just look better in black and white:

Sunrise, Sunset

Like most people, I've taken a few sunsets over the years but, since I'm a bit of a night owl, very few sunrises.

This first one is actually a sunrise looking across the Mount Allison University Swan Pond toward St. Paul's Church in Sackville, NB

This one is looking over Little Bay in St. Martin, FWI.

This is a shot of the Halifax, NS waterfront taken from a boat on the harbour not far from George's Island.

One of my favourites is this shot taken from Treasure Island, Florida.

The Grand Canyon is even more spectacular at sunset.

This shot of Fisherman's Cove, Eastern Passage, NS was taken with a Pentax 645 film camera and later converted to digital format.

That's it for now.  Keep checking back for more posts.

This one is for the birds

Here are some of my bird captures. There was a time when I pursued wildlife with a different piece of equipment but I find this is much more rewarding.

This one of a ruffed grouse was taken in our backyard.

American Tree Sparrow:

Bald Eagle (I've also printed this in B&W).

Egret, taken on a Florida trip.

Gannets with chicks (Cape St. Mary's Bird Sanctuary, NL).

Taken at North Rustico, PE (I like this in B&W as well).

A hawk that was residing at Hope Swinamer's "Hope for Wildlife", Seaforth, NS. Ms. Swinamer is well known for her resuce of injured animals and birds and finding homes for those that cannot be released back into the wild.

Taken on a very grey day in Shubie Park, Dartmouth, NS.

Enough for one post - will publish more later.

First Posting

Thought I'd start with a few images that I feel look better in black and white. This one was taken at Duncan's Cove, NS while hiking with a group from Big Brothers Big Sisters.

Peggy's Cove Lighthouse as seen when entering the Cove by boat.

Of course, some photos are naturally black and white.

Taken near Cap A L'Aigle, PQ

Woodside Ferry (Halifax, NS) in sea smoke.

Walkway at Russell Lake (Dartmouth, NS)

That's it for now - will post more B&W later.
